Fine Vision Universal Clear Anti-Fog Visor Lense Insert [Product Review]

Have you ever purchased a new helmet and been excited to take it our for a spin only to find as soon as you breathe the visor steams up and you can’t see a single thing? Yes, well that happened to me for the first time a couple of months ago. Not only is this infuritating for you, the rider, but it is also very dangerous.

Thankfully there is a solution which means you can still use the helmet and have a clear view of the road. A company called Phoenix have produced Fine Vision,  a sticky backed visor insert that sticks on the inside of your visor and does not fog up when riding or stationary. Powered by Pinlock Systems, the Phoenix Fine Vision adhesive lens is created out of a plastic with a moisture absorbing coating. The lens creates an air tight double shield and fits on both pinned and non-pinned visors.

These sticky lenses are perfect for helmets without pinlock inserts. The shape of the visor insert mimics that of your visor and whilst it isn’t the exact dimensions of your helmet’s visor, it covers a large proportion of it with just a trim around the edge that isn’t covered. If you have an Arai SAI or SAL helmet, there are specific inserts from Phoenix for your helmet, but for everyone else the Universal fit should do the trick.

Before fitting your Fine Vision insert, place the insert on the outside of your fully shut visor to get an idea where you would like to fix it. Get some masking tape and place a piece above and below the centre line, with the edge meeting the insert. Do the same at either side. Make sure it is level and that the rubber seal at the bottom of the helmet’s visor fixture does not rub against the insert. The masking tape will act a perimeter which will help you position the Fine Vision insert a little later on.

Once you are happy with the fixture perimeter,  remove your visor from the helmet and give the insides of the visor a good clean. You do not want to get any dust or dirt trapped under the insert. Once you’ve cleaned and dried the visor, peel away both backings of the Fine Vision insert. Gently place it down the inside of the visor, inline with the masking tape perimeter you placed on the outside. Once you are happy that it is in the correct position, gently press across the edges of the insert. Once pressed, you cannot remove it so do ensure that you have the insert in the right position.

Voila! Fine Vision insert is fitted!

You can keep the insert clean by using liquid green soap and lukewarm water.  Leave the visor to dry naturally before re-assembling.

So, the verdict? Well, I can safely say this is one of the best inventions on the planet. The insert does not steam up at any point, evin in cold weather, riding down the motorway or even stood stationary at traffic lights, which is one of most common places that your visor will fog up. The clarity of the visor is excellent. It is almost as clear as an actual anti-fog visor. You can safely see everything through it, which is must when riding your motorcycle.

My helmet has a tinted inner sun visor but if your helmet hasn’t and your outer visor fogs like mine did, then you might want to check out the Fine Vision Photochromatic Insert. Not only is it anti-fog, but it also changes colour under different light conditions. Using light reactive technology, the photochromatic insert transforms from a subtle shade of green to a deeper shade of mid blue within seconds in bright sunlight and returns to it’s original colour when the weather changes. For anyone who’s been blinded by the sun whilst out riding, this is the perfect choice of product to use.
